We are pleased to announce the seminar “Agroforestry Sustainability and Climate Change,” which will take place at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (Room 2.78; FC5) on May 21.

This initiative, organized by the Plant Stress Lab (GreenUPorto, FCUP) as part of the CC&NUTS project, funded by the Promove Program of the La Caixa/BPI & FCT Foundation, aims to explore and discuss climate challenges in Portugal, with a special focus on tree species and agroforestry systems.

Following the 4th MOPT Conference, the 5th edition marks a new step in the consolidation of spatial modeling as a key field for understanding and addressing the complex interconnections between environmental change, territorial dynamics, and planning processes. As socio-environmental systems become increasingly shaped by climate pressures, land-use conflicts, digital transformation, and new forms of uncertainty, spatial modeling continues to expand its relevance across both scientific research and policy-oriented practice.

On May 20 from 10 am to 12 pm, a webinar will be held on the species Portugal has lost, their role in ecosystems, and the obstacles—both ecological and legal—that currently hinder reintroduction and translocation efforts in Portugal.

During this session, we will explore which key species are missing from Portuguese territory, what their absence means for the functioning of ecosystems, and what the new European Nature Restoration Regulation requires of us in this area.
