Portugal has been repeatedly ravaged by extremely violent wildfires, which, year after year, destroy vast areas of flora and fauna. Far from being inevitable or isolated events, they form part of a ‘slow disaster’: the result of decades, and even centuries, of an exploitative economic relationship with the forest.
