Major 21st-century environmental challenges — climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss, planetary health, land grabbing processes, water, and food security — are largely concentrated in the tropical world, particularly across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. While these regions face significant environmental risks, they are also emerging hubs of scientific knowledge, innovation, and solutions critical for the planet’s future.
In this context, the forum Bridging Continents for Planetary Futures, organised within World Environment Day 2026, aims to establish the political, institutional, and operational foundations of the TropikALL Mobility Framework — a future international mobility, training, and research programme inspired by European models but tailored to the needs and potential of tropical regions.
