Nature Restoration Law

Several factors have been putting pressure on ecosystems and species, particularly pollution, climate change, habitat loss and fragmentation, and invasive species. Although nature conservation is one of the EU’s concerns, the action taken by the EU and its Member States has so far been insufficient to halt this damage and reverse the situation.

That is why, for the first time, binding targets will be set to restore degraded or destroyed ecosystems, with the overall aim of strengthening nature’s resilience and biodiversity. It is in this spirit that the EU and its Member States are working on an ambitious piece of legislation, the Nature Restoration Law.
