Fourth Session of the “TERRA Grande” Debate Cycle Now Available: “Alternative Water Sources: Desalination?”

The TERRA Associate Laboratory, as part of the “TERRA Grande” debate cycle focused on the theme “Water for Agriculture,” has just released the video of the fourth and final debate, titled “Alternative Water Sources: Desalination?” featuring Luís Mesquita Dias, President of AHSA – Association of Horticulturists, Fruit Growers, and Floriculturists of the Municipalities of Odemira and Aljezur, Joel Vasconcelos, General Director of Lusomorango – Organization of Small Fruit Producers, S.A., and Pedro Valadas Monteiro, Vice-President of the Coordination and Regional Development Commission (CCDR) of Algarve. This debate focuses on innovative and alternative solutions to address water scarcity in the agricultural sector, specifically exploring desalination as a potential viable solution.

Throughout this cycle, which began with an analysis of water scarcity for agriculture, the TERRA Laboratory has fostered essential discussions on the challenges faced by the agricultural sector and the alternatives to ensure its sustainability. The debates cover topics such as water transfers, farmers’ rights, and, now, alternative water sources.

We invite all interested parties to watch the final debate and explore the videos of previous debates, now available on the official TERRA website. These debates, moderated by Professor Gonçalo Caleia Rodrigues, TERRA researcher and professor at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA), offer a comprehensive and in-depth view of the impact of water on agriculture and solutions for a more sustainable future.
