CEG celebrates José Manuel Simões’ scientific contribution with a work dedicated to the territory and tourism
The book “Planeamento Territorial e Turismo. Estudos em homenagem a José Manuel Simões” pays tribute to the academic legacy of CEG researcher and TERRA member José Manuel Simões.
No passado dia 5 de novembro, foi apresentado no IGOT-ULisboa o livro “Planeamento Territorial e Turismo. Estudos em homenagem a José Manuel Simões”, numa cerimónia que reuniu colegas, amigos e membros da comunidade académica.
The work, coordinated by the research groups MOPT – Modeling, Territorial Planning, and Spatial Planning, and TERRITUR – Tourism, Heritage and Space, both from the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG), pays tribute to the academic and scientific career of José Manuel Simões, a researcher at CEG and member of the TERRA Associate Laboratory, with contributions that reflect his impact in the areas of spatial planning, urban planning, and sustainable tourism — key areas for several TERRA units.
The launch session featured speeches by José Luís Zêzere (director of CEG), Mário Vale (president of IGOT), Eduarda Marques da Costa (coordinator of MOPT), Eduardo Brito Henriques (coordinator of TERRITUR), and Patrícia Abrantes (co-editor of the book), all members of TERRA. The event was marked by words from Professor Emeritus Jorge Gaspar and a closing speech by the honoree, José Manuel Simões, who emphasized the importance of collaborative research and promoting the region.
