Completed her PhD in Medicina in 2016 by Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Licenciatura in Medicina in 1984 by Universidade de Lisboa Faculdade de Medicina. For several years, she coordinated the Portuguese Society of Cardiology (SPC) Exercise/Cardiovascular Rehabilitation (CR) working group and the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC) CR Section, participating in advocacy, membership, education, accreditation committees, and EAPC certification process for Preventive Card. She currently coordinates the CR Centre (FMUL/CHULN/CRECUL), the first in Portugal, and one of the first in Europe, to be accredited by the European Society of Cardiology, and published the minimal standards/quality indicators on behalf of SPC and EAPC. Presently, she is a Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL), cardiologist at Hospital de Santa Maria, Director of Instituto de Saúde Ambiental and Instuto de Medina Preventiva e Saúde Pública, member of CCUL and CAML. She is the current President-elect of EAPC and coordinator of CV risk and prevention WG of SPC. Very recently, she participated in the University of Lisbon proposal for a PhD on Planetary Health and has a project for structured Planetary Health studies in Medicine. She is the National Coordinator of the Interaspire study, the Euroaspire VI study and the Coroprevention study. Her professional trajectory starts as general cardiologist, differentiates in stress/exercise, progresses to a broader area of CV Prevention, CR and to a more enlarged area of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health and Medicine. She published several scientific articles in national and internation high impact journals, public journals, magazines, book chapters and is an editor of scientific books and journals, as well as a reviewer. Organized and participated in different events. She currently supervises 3 PhD thesis. Has received awards and/or honours and participated in several research projects (national and international). She received a Grant of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology (SPC) for Research in Nuclear Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine and a FCT Grant for “Benefit of High Intensity Exercise Training in Heart Failure patients submitted to Cardiac resynchronizers (BETTER-HF). She was responsible for the creation of a Digital program REC-CASA for patients in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) during Covid-19, that was posteriorly elected as one of the finalists for the Award “Boas Práticas em Saúde”, of Ministry of Health and was responsible for the creation of the CV Rehabilitation Master Course at FMUL, the first in Portugal, one of the first in Europe. She contributed to the development of the EXPERT flowchart Tool Development, a digital exercise prescription tool (University of Hasselt, ESC), the development of European Standards and Quality criteria for CR Programs in EAPC/ESC and the development of European Certification Program for the title of Specialist of Preventive Cardiology EAPC/ESC. She is a Member of Committees for Education, Advocacy, Membership of EAPC and Member of many scientific committees of national and international congresses. President of 2 International congresses on Preventive Cardiology of EAPC/ESC and Host committee of 2 International congresses (International Nuclear Cardiology and ESC Prev Cardiology in Lisbon), Senior advisor of 2 ESC Preventive Cardiology Congresses, and member of scientific committee of 1st Tropical Summit. She is an Invited Speaker and moderator in many international congresses in Egypt, Morocco, Romania, Azerbaijan, Spain , Italy, Crete, Greece, England, France, USA, Brazil, Ecuador, Germany, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Croatia. ~ Her main focus, in clinical, research and advocacy are now: CV Risk and Prevention, CV and NCDs Rehabilitation, Environmental and Planetary Health.
