Portuguese Edition of Book on Gulf of Guinea Island Biodiversity Features Contributions from TERRA Researchers
The TERRA Associate Laboratory is pleased to announce the release of the Portuguese edition of “Biodiversidade das Ilhas Oceânicas do Golfo da Guiné”—a landmark publication showcasing the unique ecological richness of this Atlantic region. The volume, published by Arte e Ciência, is a translated and updated version of the original title “Biodiversity of the Gulf of Guinea Oceanic Islands”, published in 2022 by Springer Nature.
The book brings together scientific contributions from numerous international experts, including three researchers affiliated with TERRA: Jorge Paiva and Maria do Céu Madureira, both from the CFE – Centre for Functional Ecology, and Sofia Boanova Viegas from the CEF – Centro de Estudos Florestais. Their contributions were essential in deepening knowledge on the flora and island ecosystems of this region, which is of exceptional biological significance.
The official launch of the Portuguese edition recently took place in São Tomé and Príncipe, underscoring the book’s scientific and cultural relevance for the countries of the region and for the wider Portuguese-speaking world.
Both the Portuguese and English editions have been published in open access, ensuring free availability to researchers, policymakers, students, and the general public.
