On April 22, in celebration of World Earth Day, the TERRA Associate Laboratory will host a special event that brings together science, philosophical reflection, and collaborative action in support of sustainability and the future of the planet. The initiative will take place at the National Library of Portugal in Lisbon and invites the scientific community to participate in a day fully dedicated to knowledge and action.
The morning session will feature the annual meeting of TERRA’s integrated members—an essential occasion for sharing research findings, fieldwork experiences, and collaborative strategies aimed at addressing the pressing socio-environmental challenges of our time. This meeting seeks to strengthen interdisciplinary connections and foster the development of integrated and evidence-based solutions.
In the afternoon, the event will present the book Gaia and Philosophy by Lynn Margulis and Dorion Sagan, a work that offers a profound reflection on the interdependence between living systems and the environment. Merging philosophical and ecological approaches, the publication invites readers to reconsider humanity’s relationship with the planet, offering new perspectives on our place on Earth.
The event will be held at the National Library of Portugal—a space of knowledge and memory, ideally suited to host a day of reflection, dialogue, and inspiration on environmental issues.
