Three researchers from the TERRA Associate Laboratory and the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG) recently featured in reports on the eMOTIONAL Cities project, an innovative study investigating the relationship between urban environments and emotional well-being.
On February 1, Nuno Marques da Costa was highlighted on RTP in a report where João Ferrão discussed the impact of public spaces on citizens’ quality of life and the growing importance of this issue in urban debates.
On January 31, Paulo Morgado was a guest on Antena 1’s Anfiteatro program to discuss the eMOTIONAL Cities project and its implications for urban planning. On the same day, Paulo Morgado and Ana Bonifácio participated in an RTP report titled Passadeiras geram alerta e jardins relaxam. Uma mochila “mediu” emoções em Lisboa (Crosswalks raise alert and gardens relax. A backpack “measured” emotions in Lisbon), where data was presented on how different elements of the city influence people’s emotional states.
This European project has been developing innovative tools to study urban perception and its effects on mental health and well-being.
To further explore these issues, the 1st International Symposium on NeuroUrbanism and NeuroArchitecture will take place on February 26 and 27 in Lisbon. The event will bring together international experts to discuss how city design can impact behavior and mental health. For more information about the symposium, visit: neurourbanismo.pt.
The participation of TERRA researchers in these initiatives underscores the TERRA Associated Laboratory’s commitment to studying the interactions between urban environments and human well-being, contributing to a form of urbanism that is more attuned to the emotional and cognitive needs of the population.
