Raquel Lobo do Vale, a researcher from the Forest Research Centre (CEF) and the TERRA Associate Laboratory, participated in the international meeting of WG3 – Modeling Vegetation Traits and Fluxes from Optical Data in Agricultural Crops and Forests, held at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) in Lisbon on January 23-24.
The meeting, part of the COST Action CA22136 – PANGEOS COST Action, brought together 19 participants from various European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The event was organized by Holly Croft, Kadmiel Maseyk, and Helge Aasen and included presentations, creative sessions, and reflective exercises.
The first day focused on the theme “Big Data and Cloud Computing,” starting with an exercise to present and discuss expectations, followed by nine presentations and a creative session to explore new approaches in this area. In the afternoon, participants took a walk around the campus and ended the day with a guided tour of the riverside front of Lisbon and a group dinner.
On the second day, reflections on the outcomes from the first day preceded five more presentations, followed by a new creative session centered on the “Satellite Mission Validation Strategy.” The meeting concluded with the definition of future tasks and planning for the production of scientific manuscripts based on the discussions held.
Raquel Lobo do Vale’s participation in this event highlights TERRA’s contribution to international research on the monitoring of agricultural and forest ecosystems through Earth observation data, aligning with the challenges of sustainable landscape management in Europe.
