New Introduction to Natural Engineering Techniques Course

TERRA collaborates in the promotion of a theoretical-practical course to train technicians and professionals specialized in natural engineering applied to the ecological recovery of rivers and ecosystems.

The TERRA Associate Laboratory has joined forces with the Municipality of Ponte de Lima, the Centre for Forestry Studies (CEF) of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) and the European Federation of Natural Engineering (EFIB) to organize the Theoretical-Practical Course on Introduction to Natural Engineering Techniques, which will take place on September 3, 4 and 5 in the Auditorium of the Environmental Interpretation Centre of the Bertiandos and São Pedro d’Arcos Lagoons Protected Landscape Area. This training initiative, promoted under the European project MERLIN – Horizon 2020, also has the collaboration of AEIP – Spanish Association of Landscape Engineering and APENA – Portuguese Association of Natural Engineering.

The main aim of the course is to introduce the concepts and practices of Natural Engineering to students, technicians responsible for managing works and operational teams. Its main objectives are also the acquisition of theoretical concepts in natural engineering techniques for the recovery, improvement or restoration of rivers, the acquisition of practical skills to supervise and manage works using natural engineering techniques and the acquisition of knowledge about river recovery.

With a duration of 20 teaching hours spread over three days (September 3, 4 and 5), the program combines theoretical sessions with a practical component of intervention in the field, focused on the ecological recovery of the Estorãos River, a tributary of the Lima River. This approach aims to provide participants with the technical skills to plan, manage and implement bioengineering works in river rehabilitation.

Registration is free but mandatory, and the practical component is limited to 20 participants. The course will be held in Portuguese and Spanish.
