Alina Esteves completed her PhD in Geography on 2005/04/21 at the University of Lisbon. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Lisbon Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning. Co-coordinator of the Migrare Research Group – Migrations, Spaces and Societies at the Center for Geographical Studies. Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Human Geography at IGOT-ULisboa. Member of the School Council of IGOT-ULisboa. Country coordinator for Portugal of the “European Web Site on Integration” (EWSI), whose general coordination is ensured by the Migration Policy Group (Brussels). Member (representative of teachers) of the Equality Committee of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon. He has published several articles in specialized journals in the area of ​​migration (Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies), population (Population, Space and Place), Geography (Finisterra). He works in the area(s) of Social Sciences with an emphasis on Economic and Social Geography and has participated in several national and international projects with competitive funding. Since 2014, she has participated as a member of collaborator of different research projects funded by the Portuguese Agency for Science and Technology (FCT), the Portuguese General Directorate for Higher Education (DGES), the Erasmus+ Portuguese Agency, the European Cultural Foundation, and Leonardo da Vinci. She has presented c. 100 talks at national and international conferences and she is the author of up to 50 publications, namely the book Reinventing a Small, Worldly City: The Cultural and Social Transformation of Cardiff, published in 2017 by Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group. She has been the recipient of up to 20 grants, distinctions, and prizes by renowned institutions (European Cultural Foundation, Europa Nostra Awards, ENCATC, FCT, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Marie Curie Actions, Luso-American Foundation, and the Portuguese National Agency for Innovation – ANI). She has also been an external expert/evaluator for the European Commission (Directorate-General Regional and Urban Policy and Research Executive Agency), the Erasmus+ National Agency, and the Fundação Cidade de Lisboa (Lisbon City Foundation), as well as a reviewer for more than 15 national and international journals in urban studies, cultural studies, tourism, intergenerational studies, education, and languages. She is Associate Editor of the Journal of Intergenerational Relationships and Member of the Editorial Board of the Language Learning in Higher Education, the New Trends in Qualitative Research journal, the Ler Educação, and EduSer. She is also a member of the executive committee of ReCLes.pt – the Portuguese Association of Language Centres in Portuguese Higher Education since 2021.

He completed his PhD in Land Cover Mapping in the Southern Hemisphere of Africa, using satellite images in 2005 from the Instituto Investigação Cientifica Tropical (Public Examinations equivalent to a PhD), a Master’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems in 1999 from the University of Lisbon Instituto Superior Técnico and a Degree in Geographic Engineer in 1994 from the University of Lisbon Faculty of Sciences.

Ana Louro (June 16th, 1987) is Geographer and researcher at the Centre for Geographical Studies, University of Lisbon, since 2010. Graduated in Geography, Human area (FLUL-UL, 2008). Held a Master in Spatial Management and Urbanism (IGOT-UL, 2011), with the thesis “The use of time associated with the mobility of families as a differentiating factor in setting up a sustainable community”. In 2019, completed her PhD in Geography, specialization in Regional and Urban Planning (IGOT-UL, 2012 -2019), funded by FCT (PhD Scholarship SFRH/BD/85150/2012). She also has a Master in Education of Geography (IGOT). Her research topics are related with urban sustainability and sustainable communities, uses of time and daily life of families, urban mobility and sustainable urban mobility plans, healthy and livable cities, Cohesion Policy and monitoring and evaluation of policies. She has collaborated on several national research projects (eg. INCAP, SPOTIA, FURBS, Quality of Life and Management of the city), international research projects (eg. EuroBroadMap, Local Health Promotion for Construction of Healthy Cities), beyond the participation in service provision activities being part of the portuguese team mainly for EC / DG Region projects about the Cohesion Policy. Participated in several symposia and national and international scientific seminars, related to her research topics, projects and theses, published several chapters and articles in peer reviewed scientific journals, and contributed to the organization of nacional and international scientific events (AESOP 2017 Congress, 12th IUPEA Symposium 2016, RSA Workshop on the EU Cohesion Policy 2015; IV RIDOT Workshop 2015).

AMonteiro is a geo-agroecologist focused on remote sensing modelling frameworks for conservation of mountain agro-forested landscapes under anthropogenic and climate change. Currently, he is Auxiliary Researcher (equiv. Assistant Professor) at IGOT-CEG, University of Lisbon. His approach is technological and oriented to innovative remote sensing approaches (i.e. artificial intelligence machine learning) and indicators (i.e. spectral biodiversity) to evaluate progresses towards policy objectives in mountain socio-ecological systems. The Biodiversity Strategy 2030 over grasslands, the deforestation in tropical mountain biodiversity hotspots and the reforestation in European forests are currently the target. This knowledge is supporting advanced studies (i.e. MSc), lecturing (i.e. Geocomputation) at IGOT-CEG, and active contribution in successful grant applications (i.e. ECOPOTENTIAL, EU-H2020; MARGISTAR CA21125, EU-Horizon Europe). His commitment is being gradually recognized by: co-leadership in European projects (Working Group 3 – MARGISTAR CA21125); leadership in advanced training (PEN-CAFoRR CA19128); key publishing; expansion of activities in new mountain regions together with international recognized teams (i.e. Artic (CNR), Angola & Madagascar (CIBIO-InBIO)); and by increasing media coverage of the research (i.e. Copernicus – ESA). Working since the 13th years old, the current position represents hard working and a compromise between academic duties and familiar care. He has a PhD in Agroecology from University of Milan (Italy) since 2011: PhD School ‘Earth, Environment and Biodiversity’, Faculty of Agriculture Sciences. During his PhD, he learned in mountain ecology and satellite remote sensing at Univ. of Basel (Inst. of Botany, Prof. Christian Korner), Univ. California-Berkeley (ESPM, Prof. Peng Gong) and University Technology Sydney (Prof. Alfredo Huete). In 2012, he returned to Europe for a junior researcher position at Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC, Italy). In 2013, he returned to Portugal and was postdoc researcher at CIBIO-InBIO until 2018. In 2019, he joined IGOT-CEG as junior research and in January 2024 became an auxiliary researcher. AMonteiro authored 31 publications in international peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journals in the areas of Remote Sensing, Land Cover/Use Change, Ecological Modelling, Geospatial Programming, Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change. He has a h-index of 18 with over 1050 citations (source: google scholar), mean impact factor of 4.84 and cumulative impact factor of 126.4. He has other 28 contributes on chapters, technical reports and communications. He co-authored Q-PhenoMetrics and PI2GIS softwares. In 2017, he was member of the Copernicus Global Land Products Technical User Group (TUG) from European Space Agency (ESA). In 2018 and 2019, his research in Portuguese mountains was presented in the exhibition ‘SPACED – protecting natural landscapes from above’ in the European Parliament and covered by the ESA Copernicus magazine. In 2020, he was nominated by FCT as Portuguese delegate for the European COST action PEN-CAFoRR (CA19128). In 2021, he received the invitation from the Consiglio Nazionale Delle Ricerche (CNR)-Institute of Geoscience and Georesources (IGG, Pisa) to become Invited Associate Researcher. In 2022, he was nominated by FCT as delegate for the COST action MARGISTAR (CA 21125). At University of Lisbon, he is member of the College on Polar and Extreme Environments (Polar2E, since 2021) and of the PhD External Advisory Committee of the Agrinatura/ERAIFT of Tropical College (since 2023). He is member of the scientific commission of Branda Cientifica de São Bento do Cando- Peneda-Gerês, the new mountain research facility of Portugal. AMonteiro is 42 years old, married and father of three children.

Brígida Riso is a health sociologist and researcher. Her research interests are mainly biobanks, biomedical research, health in datified societies, and artificial intelligence. She has developed an original research on the relevance of biobanks in health configuration in the contemporary Portuguese society. Her approach usually combines sociology of health and illness and social studies of science, looking into ethics and research integrity. She has been an advocate and a trainer in research integrity and open science. Brígida holds a PhD in Sociology by Iscte-IUL, a MSc. in Health, Medicine & Society (Sociology of Health and Illness) and a degree in Nursing. Currently she is assistant professor (invited) at Lisbon School of Medicine.

César Capinha is Professor of Physical Geography at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT), University of Lisbon (UL). His research primarily focuses on understanding biogeographical changes driven by human activities, with an emphasis on biological invasions. He also very interested in the spatial and temporal predictive modelling of ecological and biological phenomena, often through the application of state-of-the-art machine learning approaches and small-to-big data sources. He earned a Geography degree from UL in 2007, a MSc in GIS from UL in 2009, and a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Évora in 2012. His postdoctoral work included positions at the UL’s Centre for Environmental Biology, the Centre for Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Porto, the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the New University of Lisbon, and the Alexander Koenig Zoological Research Museum in Bonn, Germany. He also served as an invited Assistant Professor and later as an Assistant Researcher [‘CEEC’ funded – equiv. to Assist. Professor] at IGOT. Currently, Capinha is an integrated researcher at the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG-IGOT) and a member of the Risk Assessment and Management of Environmental Risks (RISKam) research group and the Associate Laboratory TERRA, where he coordinates Thematic Line 1 ‘Natural Capital and Ecosystem Services’. His publication record includes over 80 scientific papers in Web of Science journals, with contributions to high profile ones like Science, PNAS, Nature Communications, Nature Ecology and Evolution and Science Advances. He was involved in 15 national and international research projects, including four as principal investigator and two as co-principal investigator. He has supervised 9 doctoral and 12 master’s students (3 and 10 concluded, respectively). He was also contributing author to the recent 2023 UN’s IPBES assessment on biological invasions. He acted as project reviewer for Swiss, Czech, and Polish R&D institutions. Currently, he also serves as Senior Editor at the editorial board of the journal Diversity and Distributions and Distributions (Wiley, WoS Q1).

Jurist, Advisor to the Rector and Assistant Professor in the area of ​​Law, specialist in the area of ​​Intellectual Property and Data Protection. She is co-coordinator of the Privacy and Data Protection Centre and Executive and Editorial Director of the academic and scientific journal Privacy and Data Protection Magazine, published by the European University (2021). Integrated researcher at the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P, Portugal, at the Functional Ecological Center and at the TERRA Laboratory – University of Coimbra and University of Lisbon. Visiting researcher at the University of Oxford, St Antony’s College (2005), with a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Daniel Paiva is a Researcher at the Centre of Geographical Studies of the University of Lisbon and Co-coordinator of the Research Group ZOE – Urban and Regional Changes and Policies. Daniel holds an European PhD (2019) in Geography by the Universidade de Lisboa (Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território). His doctoral research was funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. In 2019, Daniel was awarded a six-year fellowship by the Concurso Estímulo ao Emprego Científico by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia to explore new ways to create urban nature experiences through the combination of art, geotechnologies and urban design. Daniel Paiva is PI of the research project UrBio – Making urban planning and design smarter with participatory mobile biosensing, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, and has collaborated in several internationally (URBAN-NET, CAPES-FCT, Axencia Galega de Innovación) and nationally (FCT) funded research projects, such as PALCOS, CHRONOTOPE, Saberes Geográficos, NoVOID, or AGORA. In the framework of these projects, Daniel was Visiting Researcher at the Lund University (Sweden), Royal Holloway University of London (United Kingdom), University of Warsaw (Poland), and Federal University of Mato Grosso (Brazil). Daniel Paiva studies affective urbanism and the design and management of urban experiences in tourism, consumption and leisure areas in Europe and South America. His research on these topics has been published in international geography and social science journals such as Annals of Tourism Research, Annals of the American Association of Geographers, Transactions of Institute of British Geographers, Geography Compass, Urban Geography, Tourism Geographies, and Social & Cultural Geography. He co-edited the volume Ambiance, Tourism and the City, published by Routledge in 2023. He has been invited to speak at scientific meetings in countries such as Brazil, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Daniel is co-founder of the Luso-Brazilian Encounter on Emotional Geographies, which has gathered more than 100 scholars in the first two editions in 2021 and 2023.

Daniela Ferreira is a digital and economic geographer. She holds a PhD (2022) in Geography by the University of Lisbon (Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning), which was funded by a grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. She also holds a Master in Spatial Planning and Urbanism (2015) and a Degree in Geography (2012) both from the same institution. She is currently a contracted Researcher at the Centre of Geographical Studies in the University of Lisbon, and she was awarded a six-year fellowship by the Stimulus of Scientific Employment, Individual Support Call – 6th edition funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). This project aims to understand the medium to long-term impacts of FinTech services over entrepreneurs from vulnerable groups. Daniela is a member of the ZOE (Urban and Regional Change and Policies) and MIGRARE (Migration, Spaces, and Societies) research groups. She is also an associated member of the Regional Studies Association and member of the Digital Geographies Research Group of the RGS-IBG (UK). Her research activities focus on the platform economy, FinTech, and the new business models generated by technological development, as well as the emergence of digital divides in territories and cyberspace. Alongside university teaching, Daniela has been a team member in several internationally (Horizon 2020; ESPON) and nationally (FCT) funded research projects, such as ACCTING, METRO, UrBio, and Phoenix. She has also collaborated on the organization of international scientific events, and co-created the Digital Geographies Conference series, which is already advancing for the third edition. Daniela Ferreira’s research has been published in international geography and social science journals such as Geoforum, Area, The Professional Geographer, Geographical Review, ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, or Fennia – International Journal of Geography. She is also co-editor of the book “Geographies of the platform economy. Critical perspectives” published by Springer. Daniela has authored and co-authored more than 13 scientific papers with over 190 citations. She was awarded the Scientific Article of the Year 2022 Prize by the Centre of Geographical Studies in the field of Human Geography.

Diogo Guedes Vidal is a Portuguese environmental and health sociologist (1993) combining ecology and environmental health in sociological knowledge. Holds a degree in Sociology (2014), Master’s in Sociology from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, Portugal (2016) and PhD in Ecology and Environmental Health (2022). He has been a research fellow in several projects funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, I.P.), the main Portuguese public funding agency, in the area of public and environmental health, environmental sociology, and sustainability. He started his scientific activity during his master’s degree in sociology (2014-2016), working on a funded project in the application of surveys and interview reviews. Between 2016 and 2017, he was a sociologist at a market research company, and between 2017 and 2019, he was a research fellow in several projects funded by FP-ENAS, an interdisciplinary research unit in environmental energy and health at the University Fernando Pessoa. Between 2017 and 2022 he was a Ph.D. research fellow with a project funded by FCT, I.P. to be developed at the FP-ENAS in the University Fernando Pessoa, Porto, Portugal, focused on understanding the socioecology of public urban green spaces where he combined innovative and transdisciplinary techniques, applying checklists, questionnaire surveys, cluster analysis, and behavioral mapping of these spaces users. Currently, he is Invited Assistant Researcher at the EU project “PHOENIX: The rise of citizens voices for a greener Europe¿ at the Centre for Functional Ecology – Science for People & the Planet, University of Coimbra, Portugal. His research outputs are diverse and characterized by a transdisciplinary profile, namely in the field of sustainability, urban and human ecology, and social and environmental inequalities. All these studies topics came from his main study area which is the Society and Nature relations and dynamics, namely the social representation of Nature, its understandings, meanings, and symbols. He was editor of an international Springer book on cross-cutting themes in energy, environment, and health, guest editor of the international journal Frontiers in Sustainable Cities (Frontiers), Urban Science (MDPI), and at Frontiers in Environmental Science (Frontiers).

Eduarda Marques da Costa, born in Lisbon in 1966, PhD in Geography-Spatial Planning in 2001, is a senior researcher and full professor in the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of University of Lisbon. She teaches Geography and Spatial Planning since 1990, and she is a researcher in the Centre of Geographical Studies, since 1987. Eduardo Brito-Henriques is Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon (IGOT-ULisboa), and a researcher at its R&D Unit, the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG), which is now part of the Associate Laboratory TERRA. At the IGOT-ULisboa, he is the Coordinator of the Doctoral program in Tourism and Master’s degree in Tourism and Communication. He is also the PI of the CEG’s research group on Tourism, Heritage and Space (TERRITUR). His research covers and partly intersects sustainable tourism, cultural and creative geographies, and urban studies.

Eduardo Gomes (EG) holds a Ph.D. in Geography and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Lisbon. His recent research is centered in designing models and collaborative simulations to analyze changes in land use and land cover. The majority of his published works strongly emphasize geospatial modeling, land use, and decision-making processes. EG has been a Visiting Research Fellow at prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Institut des Systèmes Complexes de Paris in France, the Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore, the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, EG has received notable awards, including the Portuguese National Geography Award in 2020 for the best Ph.D. thesis (Orlando Ribeiro). Eugenia Cunha. Since 2018 she has been Director of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, Southern Delegation, Lisbon and member of the Board of Directors; Full Professor (since 2003) Guest Professor (since 2018) at the University of Coimbra, Department of Life Sciences. Visiting Professor at Stanford University (2020); USP, Ribeirão Preto (2017) and Paul Sabatier (2016). He also teaches at the University of Granada and UNIFESP, São Paulo. Researcher at the Center for Functional Ecology where she is PI of the Forensic Anthropology and Paleobiology group and coordinates the Forensic Anthropology Laboratory. Fátima Alves has a PhD in Sociology and is Associate Professor at Universidade Aberta, where she has been teaching since 2000, at the Department of Social Sciences and Management, Section of Social Sciences and Sociology Disciplinary Group and where she teaches curricular units of the Scientific Area of Sociology and Social Sciences, mainly linked to the areas and themes of the research she develops. She has coordinated for several years the Degree in Social Sciences, the Master in Intercultural Relations and the PhD in Intercultural Relations. She is currently Coordinator of the PhD in Intercultural Relations. During her 30 years of experience as a teacher in higher education she has collaborated with 18 national and international universities and polytechnics. She is currently a senior researcher at the Centre for Functional Ecology, Science for People & the Planet, at the University of Coimbra (CFE-UC), where she created and coordinates the Research Group Societies and Environmental Sustainability, linked to the Open University through its Extension, which she also coordinates. It is a multidisciplinary group which includes more than 40 researchers and collaborators, including post-graduate students (masters and doctoral) and visiting researchers, from different areas of social sciences, ecology and environmental sciences. Its scientific production reflects the concern to articulate the different disciplinary perspectives that emphasize the complementary and interdependent dimensions of the socio-ecological phenomena, sustainability and health, as well as to deepen the contribution of social studies. In addition to the central thematic areas in which she has developed her research between health and the environment, there are dimensions that cross these areas, such as, for example, the socio-ecological relationships, the knowledge-power relationships, where lay rationalities are situated, governamentality, interdisciplinarity, interculturalities and the challenges to e-learning. She has more than 114 publications in articles, books and book chapters, 56 publications in proceedings and 63 technical studies and other publications. She participates in the coordination of 18 research projects (international and national) funded, 4 of them being H2020 EU, and integrates the research team in more than 10 funded projects. She has given more than 80 papers at conferences and seminars by invitation, has been part of more than 60 scientific committees of national and international events and is part of the editorial board of 5 journals, 3 of them being relevant internationally. She has supervised dozens of MSc and PhD theses, more than 40 MSc theses completed and 6 PhDs completed. Supervises/ed 8 post-doctoral. Finally, it is worth mentioning the work developed throughout the whole path of cooperation for development and the performance of coordination positions and other relevant activities for the mission of the University. She is a member of several national and international research networks and belongs to the Scientific Council of the UNESCO Chair in Biodiversity and Conservation for Sustainable Development, University of Coimbra.

Filipa Cunha-Saraiva has a PhD in Behavioural Neuro-endocrinology by the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria, and post-graduated in Environment, Sustainability, and Education from the University of Évora, Portugal. She has more than 8 years of experience in scientific consulting, project management, and technical-scientific writing in English and Portuguese. Since 2020, she collaborates with GAF (Grupo Aprender em Festa) in community intervention projects in the area of Environment, Sustainability, and Educational Action. In parallel, she provides scientific and technical consultancy, since 2022, at GestPub – Public Management and Municipal Consulting as an expert in sustainable development and environmental psychology. She is a researcher at the Centre for Functional Ecology (CEF) at the University of Coimbra, focusing on the area “Societies and Environmental Sustainability”. Moreover, she is an external Expert in the area of Environment and Behavioural Ecology at the European Commission (Registration – EX2021D407534) and in the ERASMUS+ evaluators’ exchange. Opinion maker at the Notícias de Gouveia newspaper, with a monthly chronicle, where she writes about the environment and sustainable development.

Francisco António Dos Santos da Silva holds a PhD in Geography with a specialization in Urban and Regional Planning (IGOT-University of Lisbon), a Specialist in Tourism and Leisure (ESHTE), a Master’s Degree in Geographic Information Sciences and Systems (ISEGI-UNL) and a Degree in Geography (FL-University of Lisbon). He is an adjunct professor at the Estoril School of Hospitality and Tourism (ESHTE), an integrated researcher at the Center for Geographical Studies, IGOT, University of Lisbon and the Terra Associated Laboratory and a collaborating researcher at the Center for Research, Development and Innovation in Tourism – CiTUR Estoril). His professional activity has been quite varied, including photojournalist and trainer and monitor in various adventure activities. His main research areas are Tourism Planning and Development, Economic and Social Geography and Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Has a PhD in Geodesy and Geophysics from the Universidad de Cádiz, Spain. Holds an Adjunct Professor position at the Universidade do Algarve where he has been teaching since 1997. His research interest is the response of the Earth’s lithosphere to tectonic and volcanic activity, and also to tidal (Ocean Tide Load) and glacial (Glacial Isostatic Adjustment) surface loads, observed by space geodesy Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). Collaborated with the Spanish Active Volcanism Group of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas throughout the submarine eruption and successive unrest episodes in the surrounding area of El Hierro island (Canárias). Has participated in Antarctic campaigns to monitor Deception Island’s (South Shetland) active volcano and to quantify geomorphologic dynamics related to permafrost by space geodesy and visible band remote sensing from satellites, photogrammetric flights and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Gonçalo Vieira is Associate Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon, Senior researcher at the Centre for Geographical Studies. Coordinator of the Portuguese Polar Program (PROPOLAR) and Director of the College on Polar and Extreme Environments of the University of Lisbon. At the CEG he is member of the research group on Climate Change and Environmental Systems (ZEPHYRUS), where he coordinates the Polar and Mountain Environments team. He is external collaborator at the Centre for Nordic Studies (University Laval, Canada), at the Antarctic, Arctic and Alpine Research Group of the University of Barcelona (Spain) and member of ArcticNet (Canada). He is co-President of the International Permafrost Association and Polar Science Advisor at the Foundation for Science and Technology. Gonçalo Vieira’s research interests focus on the effects of changing climate on permafrost environments, especially on permafrost degradation and dynamics, as well as on using high resolution remote sensing techniques for studying the dynamics of polar and mountain environments. He has authored/co-authored over 90 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, 10 book chapters and edited 1 book. He has published in journals such as Geomorphology, The Cryosphere, Permafrost and Periglacial Processes, Nature Communications, Catena, Science of the Total Environment, Remote Sensing of Environment, Remote Sensing and Earth Science Reviews, among others. He was reviewer of the IPCC IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, WG1, IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate, IPCC Fifth Assessment Report, WG2 and UNEP – Policy Implications of Warming Permafrost. G. Vieira has lead and participated in projects in the Antarctic Peninsula (14 campaigns), Svalbard (2), Eastern Hudson Bay (4), Beaufort Sea Coast (3), the Patagonian Andes, the High and Middle Atlas (2) and the Portuguese mountains. Helena Freitas received her PhD in Ecology from the University of Coimbra, in collaboration with the University of Bielefeld, Germany, in 1993, and did postdoctoral studies at Stanford University, USA, between 1994 and 1996. Inês holds a PhD in Geography, specializing in Geographic Information Science (University of Lisbon). She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Universidade de Lisboa’s – Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT-ULisboa), a researcher in the Laboratory for Sustainable Land Use and Ecosystem Services (Lab TERRA) and a researcher in the Tourism, Heritage & Space group (TERRITUR). Between 2017-2020 Inês was an Assistant Professor in Spatial Planning and Modelling at the University of Groningen, where she was the Chief Modelling Officer at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Urban Science and Design (CASUS). Inês has taught subjects in doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s programs in the subjects of urbanism, planning and spatial modelling, namely on how geosimulation models can provide powerful tools for exploring spatial patterns that occur in urban settings. Her scientific research agenda employs urban analytics and spatial analysis to explore the social and spatial consequences of tourism. In addition, she has explored urban tourism patterns and spatial planning responses to gear cities towards future sustainable pathways. To explore these phenomena, Inês uses a mixed-method approach including Geographical Information Systems and Information and communication technologies. She has been particularly interested in the application of such methodologies to study how behavioural changes at the micro-level can produce critical changes at the macro-level in urban systems, specifically focusing on tourism dynamics as a disruptive phenomenon. Inês received recognised awards, such as the Excellence in Teaching Award: Citizens in the New Urban Agenda awarded by the Association of European Schools of Planning. Inês is the author of several scientific publications in international journals and books, supervisor of several theses and member of several committees. Most of these published works have a strong component in tourism, sustainability, geospatial modelling, and the decision-making process. She was a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Tourism Futures (2018-2022).

João Neves Silva is an Assistant Professor at the School of Agriculture and a researcher at both the Forest Research Centre and the Tropical College of the University of Lisbon. He holds a degree and a PhD in Forestry, as well as a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics. He teaches undergraduate courses such as Mathematical Analysis, Statistics, and Introduction to Forest Fires, and master’s courses including Ecology and Fire Management, and Vegetation Monitoring with UAVs and LiDAR. His research focuses on forest fires and vegetation monitoring, primarily using remote sensing data. His work includes the analysis of spatiotemporal patterns of burnt areas, modeling of pyrogenic emissions, land use/land cover mapping, and the study of long-term trends in forest productivity. He has conducted fieldwork in Angola, Australia, Brazil, Mozambique, Suriname, and Zambia. João is the coordinator of the undergraduate Forestry program, the ISA representative on the coordinating council of the Tropical College at the University of Lisbon, a member of the coordination committee for the master’s in Forestry program, and a member of the executive committee of the Forest Research Centre. He is also an Invited Professor for the Master’s program in Conservation Biology at Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique.

Jorge Rocha, geographer. He is MSc in Geographic Information Systems (2003) and in Spatial Planning (2013), and PhD in Geographic Information Science (2012). Currently is an Associate Professor of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT) and member of the Modelling, Urban and Regional Planning, and Environmental Hazard and Risk Assessment and Management research groups of the Centre of Geographical Studies, all from the University of Lisbon and also belongs to the Associate Laboratory TERRA. His field of expertise is Geosimulation and Geocomputation involving Artificial Neural Networks, Graphs Theory, Cellular Automata, and Multi-agent Systems. Jorge works are quite diverse, focusing mainly on, but not exclusively, in Urban Morphology, Remote Sensing, Land Use-Cover, Epidemiology, Health Geography, Smart Cities and Big Data. He is IGOT coordinator of the Postgraduate Studies, of the Postgraduate Update Course in Geographic Information Technologies and Spatial Planning (TIG/OT) and of the Laboratory for Remote Sensing, Geographical Analysis and Modelling (GeoModLab).

Was member of the Experts Working Group working on the Thematic Agenda for Research and Innovation in Agrifood, Forestry and Biodiversity 2030, member of the directive board of Inovisa (an innovation interface structure positioned between the scientific/academic setting and the business framework), member of the Board of the Portuguese Horticulture Association (APH) and national representative at the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) Council, and member of the Agricultural European Innovation Partnership (EIP-AGRI) Focus Group “Climate-smart (sub)tropical food crops in the EU”, among other appointments. Luís Moreno is a PhD in Human Geography and a master in Human Geography and Regional and Local Planning from the University of Lisbon, where he is a teacher (Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning – IGOT-ULisboa) and a researcher (Center of Geographical Studies – CEG/ IGOT-ULisboa). In the scope of teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, at the University of Lisbon (at the Faculty of Letters and IGOT), but also in other higher education institutions (e.g. ESELX-IPL), has worked mainly in the domains of Economic and Social Geography and Territorial Development (Regional / Local / Rural), as well as those of Rural Geography and European studies / European Policies (Master Coordinator, until 2018). He belongs to the Scientific Committee of the Doctoral Degree In Sustainability Science (REASOn | REsources, Food and Society), University of Lisbon (https://csustentabilidade.ulisboa.pt/index-en.html), since 2017, PhD course within the Ulisboa College Group “Food, Farming and Forestry” (F3, being Coordinating Council member in 2021-2024, https://colegiof3.ulisboa.pt/). Marcelo Fragoso. Completed a Ph.D. in Geography in 2004 at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Arts, a Master’s degree in Physical and Regional Geography in 1994 at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Arts, and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography in 1990 at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Arts. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Lisbon Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning. Maria J Vasconcelos is a forester and a senior researcher at the College of Agriculture of the University of Lisbon. Her main area of activity is in LULUCF and climate change, mainly in tropical regions. Her most recent work focuses on nature-based solutions for mitigation and adaptation to climate change in semi-arid tropical areas. She is a member of the Scientific Board of the National Adaptation Strategy of Portugal since 2017 and an Expert of the European Commission since 2010.

Maria Lucinda Fonseca is graduated in Geography (1978) and holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Lisbon (1989). She is currently Full Professor of Human Geography and Migration Studies at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT), University of Lisbon. She is the founder and the Scientific Coordinatorof the Research Unit MIGRARE – Migration, spaces and societies at the Centre for Geographical Studies (CEG) of the same institute ((2008- January 2024). She is also the Director of the PhD Program on Migration Studies at the University of Lisbon, since its creation (2011) to date. Professor Fonseca is a member and vice-Secretary of the Section of Letters of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences as well as a member of the Scientific Council. She also integrates the Scientific Advisory Board of Institute for Urban and Regional Research, Austrian, Academy of Sciences and the Braziliam Observatory of Migration. Prof. Fonseca is a founder member of the IMISCOE research network (International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe) and a member of the Board of Directors, since its inception in 2004. She is a member of the International Steering Committee of Metropolis International, since 2000, and of the Commission on Global Change and Human Mobility (Globility), a study group of the International Geographical Union. Professor Fonseca is the national expert for the MIPEX – Migrant Integration Policy Index since its inception. She coordinated the IGOT team of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (INTEGRIM – 2013-2016, funded under EU FP7) on international migration and integration, being also the coordinator of the research dimension on Urban Integration, Residential Patterns and Mobility. She has published extensively in Portugal and abroad, especially on internal and international migration, integration, diversity and urban change; Demographic change and local and regional development. Prof. Fonseca has served on numerous management and leadership positions at the University of Lisbon, namely the following: Board Member of CEG (Centre of Geographical Studies (1984-1986), Board Member of the Faculty of Letters (1991-93), Pro-Rector (1998-2002), Member of the General Council of the University (2010-2013), Dean and President of the Scientific Council of Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (2013-2019).

Maria Teresa Ferreira is PhD in Anthropology, branch of Forensic Anthropology, and is Assistant Professor in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Coimbra. In the present, she is Coordinator of the Master of Forensic Anthropology from the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Coimbra; Vice-coordinator of the Centre for Functional Ecology, Science for People & the Planet; Curator of the 21st Century Identified Skeletal Collection, Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology, Department of Life Sciences, University of Coimbra. She was Vice-Coordinator for the branch of Forensic Anthropology of the PhD in Anthropology between 2019 and 2023. She is the co-PI of the research on the osteological collection of skeletons of African enslaved individuals exhumed from the Valle da Gafaria (Lagos, 15th-17th centuries). She investigates mainly in the areas of Forensic Anthropology and Bioarchaeology. She worked, for a decade, on archaeological excavations (various chronologies, from the Mesolithic to the 20th century). She participated in nine forensic humanitarian missions in three continents, highlighting her participation in the Preservation of Memories Program of the Portuguese League of Combatants, and in the forensic expertise of the October 2017 massive bushfires in Portugal. She was also part of the BioCol-HIVs Project, funded by Indiana University, dedicated to Political, Social, and Cultural History of the Emergence of HIV/AIDS. She was part of the team of the Bakeng se Afrika Project (an Erasmus+ project). She is currently part of the team of the Phoenix Project and of the team responsible for the exhumation and analysis of the remains of King D. Dinis. She published 63 articles in journals referenced by Scopus and 14 book chapters, among other publications. She delivered more than 250 communications and posters at congresses / seminars. She supervises and supervised several of master’s dissertations and internships. Currently, she co-supervise 5 doctoral theses, whose students have FCT grants. Mário Vale holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Lisbon. He is professor and chair of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT) and a researcher at the Centre of Geographical Studies at the University of Lisbon. He was a Visiting Researcher at CURDS (Center for Urban and Regional Development Studies), University of Newcastle (2006) and a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Department of Geography of University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) (2013). He was the Director of the Centre of Geographical Studies -University of Lisbon from 2014 t0 2020. He is coordinator of the PhD programme in Geography at IGOT. His research interests are primarily concerned with the geography of innovation and regional development with a focus on peripheral areas. Currently, his research focuses digital platforms and spatial unevenness, regional sustainable transitions pathways, and left-behind areas development policies. He has published in Regional Studies, Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society, European Urban and Regional Studies, Geoforum, European Spatial Planning and others. His research has been underpinned by several national and international research projects (4th, 5th and 6th, Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe Framework Programs, ESPON, EEA Grants and FCT). He was President of the Portuguese Association of Geographers (2004-2008) and Vice-President of the Regional Studies Association (RSA) (2008-2011) and is currently FeRSA (Fellow of the RSA) and national representative of the association in Portugal. Since 2017, he is a member of the Board of the Regional Studies Association Europe.

I was born in Lisbon in 1977, and I am a geographer with a degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at the University Nova of Lisbon (2001), and a Ph.D. in spatial planning from the University Nova of Lisbon and Paris IV-Sorbonne (2007). In 2016, I became an assistant professor at the University of Porto in the department of Geography, and later, in 2018, at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT) of the University of Lisbon. I teach in several courses of IGOT, including the GIS Master’s, the Urbanism and Spatial Planning Master’s, the undergraduate course in Spatial Planning and Management, and the Ph.D. program in Sustainability: Resources, Food, and Society. Besides, I am a researcher at the Center of Geographical Studies of IGOT within the Modelling and Territorial Planning (MOPT) research group, and at the Laboratory Terra. My research interests are reflected in the terms frequently found in my scientific publications, such as urban agriculture, food systems, participatory GIS, metropolitan regions, land use/cover changes, spatial planning, urban growth, geographic information systems, spatial analysis and modelling with AI (machine learning).

Paula Cristina de Oliveira Castro completed her doctorate in Biology, speciality in Ecology, in 2006. She is an Invited Auxiliary Researcher at the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Coimbra (UC). She began her teaching activity in 1997, having taught several courses in the fields of Biology, Ecology, Environmental Management, Soil Ecology and Pollution, Environmental Impact Assessment, Integrated Management Systems, and Environmental Education. She is an Integrated Researcher at CFE-Centre for Functional Ecology – Science for People & the Planet (UC) and Co-PI of the Research Group ¿Societies and Environmental Sustainability. Her current area of research aims to contribute to the sustainability and resilience of ecosystems and the services they provide (ecological and sociocultural) to climate change and human activities, integrating the development of societies and economies with effective conservation of ecosystem services. Her main research interests include evaluating and modelling ecosystem services; climate-resilient agriculture, agroforestry, and urban systems; and the application of Geographic Information Systems as a tool for analysing and predicting future scenarios and supporting decision-making in ecology and ecosystem management. She develops interdisciplinary studies on ecology, ecosystem services, societies, and sustainability, promoting stakeholder engagement, participatory methodologies, and co-creation processes focusing on the benefits ecosystems provide to people, animal welfare and the implications for sustainable and intelligent territories resilient to climate change. She has experience supervising postdoctoral, doctoral, and master’s students and research fellows. She has also participated in several projects (either as a team member or as a responsible researcher), including national and H2020 I&D projects, science communication, entrepreneurship, and projects promoting cooperation between the university and the private/business sector.

I have a master in Ecology and a PhD in Ecology and Biology of Global Change. I co-authored a total of 31 ISI papers that sum 890 citations and an H-index of 14 (all papers with citation data, scopus), plus 5 book chapters. My main interest is to understand global change effects on terrestrial ecosystems, with an emphasis on climate change effects in Antarctic ecosystems. This research includes the biological, physical environment and human dimensions, using this information to build indicators. For that, I look at vegetation patterns based on taxonomic and functional trait metrics using classic ecological methodologies complemented with ultra-high-resolution image analysis. This scientific data is complemented with citizen science data collect by Antarctic tourists. Our focus is to validate the citizen science tool as a data complement to science in Antarctica, while simultaneously evaluating citizen science actions as a tool to promote environmental awareness, diplomacy and behaviours. My main international recognition was an invitation to present and propose the global ecological indicator of global change impacts based on lichen diversity in the 12th United Nations Forest Forum held in the UN headquarters, NY.

He completed his PhD in Forestry Engineering in 2000 at the University of Lisbon – Instituto Superior de Agronomia. He has published 44 articles in national and international specialized and peer-reviewed journals. He has supervised 20 master’s dissertations and 1 doctoral dissertation. Paulo Morgado is a GIScientist passionate about cities and urban planning. Paulo holds a Degree in Geography and Regional Planning from FCSH-UNL, a MSc in Geographic Information Systems, from IST-UTL, and a PhD in Regional and Urban Planning (Geocomputation) from IGOT-ULisboa. Paulo is currently an Assistant Professor at the institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon, a researcher at Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG) and a coordinator of GeoModLAB (http://ceg.ulisboa.pt/geomodlab/?lang=en). At the present moment Paulo is actively involved, and with some tasks coordination responsibilities, in an ongoing research project funded over four million euros (¿ 4.055,730,44). Paulo is also a member of the Applied Geography e GIScience and Systems, of Association of American Geographers and Associação Portuguesa de Geógrafos. Paulo was a visiting researcher at Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis of the University College London (CASA-UCL) and a Visiting Scholar at University of Cambridge, Department of Land Economy. His research areas are centered in the field of Theoretical and Quantitative Geography and in a cross-science study on everything related with cities dynamics. More recently, he is focused on Neurocomputing, Smart and Sustainable Cities, Neurourbanism, and cognitive and real-time cities. Paulo supervises several PhD thesis form different PhD courses, and Masters thesis. Paulo has published several articles in international peer-review journals, 4 book chapters and 6 books. He has also received an award for outstanding contribution in reviewing from the Science of the Total Environment journal, Elsevier Amesterdam, Netherlands.

Assistant Professor at Universidade Aberta, in Portugal, where he teaches courses in Law and Political Science, and a integrated researcher at GI Societies and Environmental Sustainability – Centre for Functional Ecology, Science for People & the Planet (University of Coimbra) and collaborating researcher at Centro de Estudos das Migrações e das Relações Interculturais (CEMRI). His research interests are environment, migration, refugees and citizenship.

Pedro Porfírio Coutinho Guimarães. PhD in Geography concluded in 2015 in the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT), Lisbon University. Holds a MSc. In Geography from the Minho University and a degree in Geography from the Lisbon University. Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning, Lisbon University, where he lectures on the field of Human Geography, Urban and Regional Analysis, Theories and Policies of Regional Development, and Economic Geography. He’s a researcher at the Centre for Geographical Studies, where he co-coordinates the Urban and Regional Change and Policies Research Group (ZOE-RG). His research focus on Economic and Social Geography, with an emphasis on Urban Studies and on the Geographies of Retailing. Among other themes, he has work on: Retail planning, Gentrification; Resilience; Demalling; Urban regeneration; Town Centre Management; Business Improvement Districts; Greyfields; and Urban Sustainability Focused on these themes, in the last ten years he published 27 articles in scientific indexed journals. Also has co-edited one book in 2020 and written 12 book chapters and 17 other publications, including thesis, reports, working papers, conference papers and abstracts, a book review and a magazine article. He won funding for 4 projects, including two to individual projects towards doctoral and post-doctoral research; and two research projects: SUSTAINLIS and PHOENIX, being the Co-Pi of this latter project. Also participated as a research member in other two project (REPLACIS and Chronotope). Participated in the organization of two international conferences and performed more than 30 presentations at national and international events, seminars and conferences. Won two awards for best academic paper. In his professional activities has collaborated with 18 authors in all types of outputs and activities. In 2022 he was awarded the University of Lisbon scientific prize on the field of Geography and Territory.

PhD in Geology (Palaeontology and Stratigraphy) (2008), Master’s in External Dynamic Geology (1997) and Bachelor’s in Geology (1993) from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, I am a lecturer in the Department of Science and Technology at the Open University, teaching 1st and 2nd cycle courses in the areas of Earth and Environmental Sciences. I am the coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Environmental Citizenship and Participation. With regard to research in the field of Sustainable Development, I have a particular interest in the characterisation, preservation and dissemination of geodiversity and the consequences of the extraction and use of mineral resources. I am a researcher at the Centre for Functional Ecology – Science for People & the Planet (CFE), University of Coimbra (extension in Universidade Aberta). I am a member of the international editorial board of the Revista Tocantinense de Geografia, Federal University of Tocantins, Brazil, and a reviewer for several international scientific journals and books. I have supervised several Master’s students and examined Master’s and Doctoral theses, and have published several articles in journals, book chapters and international conference proceedings.

Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT-ULisboa). Effective researcher at the Centre for Geographical Studies of the University of Lisbon since 2017, integrating the RISKam research group. He is also a collaborating researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (CES-UC), where he worked as a research fellow between 2011 and 2016. PhD in Territory, Risk and Public Policies (University of Lisbon, Coimbra and Aveiro, 2015), MSc in Earth Sciences (University of Coimbra, 2009) and graduation in Physical Geography (University of Lisbon, 1999). In his academic activities he has interacted with +110 collaborator(s) in authorship and co-authorship of scientific papers. He has participated and participates in research projects in the fields of risk assessment and management, of which he highlights the DISASTER, MOLINES, FORLAND, Risk Management Plan of the Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra, MOLINES, MOSAIC, RISKCOAST, BeSafeSlide, MIT-RSC, PLAAC-Arrábida, RASTOOLS, HighWaters and CLIMAAX. One of his academic and scientific motivations is to establish bridges between Physical Geography and other scientific domains also devoted to risk research, namely the Social Sciences and Engineering. He supervises several master and doctoral candidates and published in journals such as the Journal of Environmental Management, Science of the Total Environment, Natural Hazards, International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction and Environmental Science & Policy.

Raquel Varela is an associate professor with tenure at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Autonomous Section for Education and General Training). She is a historian and researcher. She serves as president of the Observatory on Living and Working Conditions. She is also the coordinator of Social Data/Nova Sustainability. She is a full-time researcher with the History, Territory, and Communities Research Group at CEF/UC/FCSH. She is a member of Laboratório Terra (focusing on Socio-ecological Systems, Planning and Policies, Society, and Environmental Health). She is a collaborating researcher at the Center for Global Studies at Universidade Aberta. She is an honorary fellow at the International Institute for Social History (Amsterdam).

In February 2021, she took her Aggregation Exams in the field of History, specializing in Contemporary History, at FCSH/Universidade Nova de Lisboa (passed unanimously). In 2020, she received the Award from the Ibero-American Communication Association at the University of Oviedo, Spain, for her contribution to the global history of labor and social movements. In 2020, she was the first recipient of the Simone Veil research fellowship, Project Europe-University of Munich. In 2021, she was a visiting fellow at the Institute for European Global Studies at the University of Basel, Switzerland. From 2011 to 2021, she served as Group Leader (Global History of Labor and Social Conflicts) at FCSH-UNL. In 2013 and 2020, she received the Santander Prize for the Internationalization of Scientific Production (UNL). She served as coordinator (2011–2020) of the international project *In The Same Boat? Shipbuilding Industry and Global Labour History*, based at the ISSH in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Author and editor of dozens of books on the contemporary history of Portugal and Europe, global labor studies, the welfare state, the labor movement, and global history. Several of these books have been translated into German, French, and English. She has published dozens of articles in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of history, sociology, education, economics, social work, and political science, indexed in ISI Thompson, CAPES Qualis A, Scopus, among others.

She has coordinated several national and international projects.

She supervises various postdoctoral, doctoral, master’s, and teaching master’s programs, as well as sandwich scholarships.

She is a member of the editorial board of the academic journals *Workers of the World* (IASSC) and deputy editor of the journal *Critique. Journal of Socialist Theory* (University of Glasgow, Scopus 4). She is the founder of the Global Labor Studies Network (New Delhi, India). She is a member of the executive board of the International Association for Strikes and Social Conflicts. Raquel Varela has been a commentator on the public television channel RTP 3 for 10 years, has participated in radio programs, and writes regularly for newspapers.

She served as scientific director for the official celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the April 25 Revolution (2014). She curated the exhibition “When We Change a Country, It Changes Us Along With It,” marking the 45th anniversary of the April 25 Revolution, in 2019. Raquel Varela is one of the country’s leading science communicators and, from 2018 to 2021, was in charge of the public history program Conversas com História at the Belém Cultural Center; she co-authored the documentary De Pé Sobre a História (5 episodes, RTP2).

Sandra Isabel Santos de Oliveira. Completed her Ph.D. in Forest and Natural Resources Engineering in 2013, by the School of Agriculture of the University of Lisbon. She has a Master in Environmental Sciences by the University of Wollongong, Australia, since 2004, and a graduate degree in Geography by the University of Coimbra, in 2002. She is currently a researcher at the Centre for Geographical Studies, Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon, in environmental risks assessment and spatial modelling, related to wildfires, climatic risks and vector-borne diseases. She also works as an expert evaluator for the European Commission since 2018. Before, she was a post-doc fellow for the European project PREFER-Copernicus at the University of Coimbra, working in wildfires vulnerability and risk in Southern Europe. She was a consultant for Bioversity International in Ghana, working in biodiversity in cocoa agroforests, and a scientific officer at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, in Italy, working in wildfires and forest protection in Europe. Her scientific path started in 2006 in the Climatology group of the Centre for Geographical Studies, as a grantholder for the UrbKlim project. She has published 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 27 book chapters and has edited 4 books. In 2019, 2 of her articles received the distinction of “Highly Cited Paper” (top 1%) by Web of Science (WoS). She has participated in 11 projects, 2 of them ongoing, and she is the Principal Investigator of another ongoing project regarding wildfire risk and climate change. She is a reviewer for several top journals and an invited editor for Forests (MDPI) and Scientific Data (Nature). Her scientific results have been presented in over 50 conferences and she has co-organised 9 events. She is the supervisor/co-supervisor of both Master and PhD thesis, related to environmental risks and spatial modelling.

Sean Cronin (Reggio di Calabria, 1994) é licenciado em Comunicação e Sociedade, tendo desenvolvido uma dissertação que analisa a série televisiva Black Mirror e a sua relação com o nosso uso da tecnologia. É também mestre em Comunicação Empresarial (ensinado em inglês) pela Universidade de Milão, onde a sua investigação se centrou na teoria e práticas do capitalismo de vigilância. Participou no programa Erasmus+ na De Montfort University (Leicester, Reino Unido) e no ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Portugal). É cofundador do ateliê de design Quattro Mura e da revista online de música Recovery Magazine. Desde 2010, tem trabalhado como compositor para vários artistas, incluindo Ainé e Hesanobody. É autor do livro bilingue de poesia italiano-português “22 poemas e meio que nunca escrevi”.

Susete Maria Gonçalves Marques. She’s a researcher at Forest Research Center and Associated Laboratory TERRA at School of Agriculture, University of Lisbon. She works in the areas of fire risk and damage models, forest management planning, multiple criteria optimization and trade-off analysis. Principal investigator in ISA in 2 national research projects and actively participates in 8 national and international projects (e.g., FCT FP7, Cost, Marie Curie, H2020). Since 2021 she is part of the MEDfOR scientific course committee at ISA. Co-author of 29 international peer/reviewed publications and 6 book chapters. Has 19 years of experience in forestry-related research and has supervised 2 PhD students and 8 MSc students. Her Scopus H index is 15.

M. Teresa FERREIRA is Full Professor at the Department of Natural Resources, Environment and Landscape at the University of Lisbon. She has a biologist background, a post-graduation on Freshwater Ecology, and a PhD and Habilitation in Forest Engineering and Natural Resources Management. She works on freshwater ecology and management, with special interest on ecological quality, fish community ecology, fish habitat requirements and riparian ecology. She is responsible for the MSc in Management and Conservation of Natural Resources and the international PhD on River Restoration and Management. Teresa developed research activities in 56 national and European competitive projects, and was involved in an identical number of applied studies (ecohydraulics, ecological monitoring, fisheries, river restoration). She published 200 peer-reviewed papers (h-index 39, https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3900-1460) and presented over 400 oral communications. Teresa acts as administration advisor for water management affairs and is a member of the National Water Council and of the Science Council for the Portuguese National Science Foundation.
