The UNESCO Chair on Biodiversity Safeguard for Sustainable
Development, CFE, TERRA and Women4Biodiversity are joining the UN Biodiversity Conference 2024 (COP 16) with the session “Women, Citizen Science, and the Futures of Biodiversity Conservation”
The 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) brings together government entities, international organizations, scientists and stakeholders from around the world to discuss issues related to biodiversity conservation between October 21 and November 1 in Cali, Colombia.
As part of the Conference, the UNESCO Chair on Biodiversity Safeguard for Sustainable Development, the Centre for Functional Ecology (CFE) and the TERRA Associate Laboratory, together with Women4Biodiversity, are organizing the parallel session “Women, Citizen Science, and the Futures of Biodiversity Conservation”.
This session will take place on October 24 at 10:10 a.m. in Cali, Colombia (4:10 p.m. in Portugal), and aims to present citizen science projects focused on biodiversity and discuss strategies to increase the participation of women and girls, highlighting the importance of these initiatives in achieving the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
The session “Women, Citizen Science, and the Futures of Biodiversity Conservation” will feature CFE scientists and TERRA members António Gouveia and Filipa Bessa. António Gouveia will talk about the importance of citizen science for biodiversity conservation and Filipa Bessa will discuss participatory efforts to map marine plastic pollution.
